Become a Partner Ministry

We help communities of faith like yours—whether church, camp, or nonprofit—effectively fill your need for a youth minister and meet the needs of the ever-changing environment of youth ministry.

Staffing and support for today’s youth ministry.

CYMT’s Graduate Residency in Youth Ministry is a comprehensive program that equips communities of faith to develop innovative, effective, and theologically informed youth ministries.

A Partner Ministry is a community of faith where a CYMT graduate resident serves for 3 years as a youth minister. CYMT staff support each Partner Ministry and Graduate Resident pair through one-on-one coaching.

Partner Ministry Advantages

Since 2006, CYMT has equipped outstanding youth ministers. 90% of our alumni are still in professional ministry. Our success begins with selecting only the top candidates from a national pool of applicants for our Residency, then fully forming them through a holistic, experience-based model of training and education.

Our application process is designed to find you a youth minister who is the best fit both in personality and theology. CYMT will work with your youth minister and team to ensure we build a solid foundation for ministry growth.

Not only does CYMT provide mentoring and coaching for your graduate resident, we provide your ministry with a veteran youth minister coach. This coach will help you develop a fertile environment for growth. You will build a foundation and infrastructure for ministry such as vision and mission statements, goals, curriculum & a discipleship plan, long-term calendars, and volunteer training and recruiting.

CYMT develops resources and initiatives for equipping youth ministries. As a partner ministry, you will have first access to everything we are developing, including what we develop through our Innovation Lab and Theology Together programs. Additionally, the CYMT family of 200+ churches and youth ministers resource each other to expand Christ’s mission in the world.

According to the State of Youth Ministry Report, the average youth minister burnout is 3 years. CYMT vets our applicants for those who have gifts and a calling. And we surround them with a community, an education, and support for fulfilling that potential and calling. With churches sometimes experiencing turnover every 18-24 months, CYMT’s 3-year program provides stability while also developing a foundation for growth. 70% of ministry partners hire their Graduate Resident after the program.

Everything you need to know

Finding a good youth minister is difficult.  Going with CYMT can save you time and money while allowing you to strengthen your ministry’s foundation for the future. CYMT admissions team recruits a national pool of applicants. Residents who are admitted to the program are vetted through four phases in our application process.  Our team prayerfully considers our applicants and your ministry’s needs to find a good fit.  Then, we equip them and you for effective ministry.

CYMT partners with ministries and individuals representing the theological views and diversity of mainline Protestant Christianity. We partner with mainline Protestant denominations including the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian (PCUSA), Cumberland Presbyterian, Lutheran (ECLA), Episcopal, Disciples of Christ, American Baptist, and Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Our partner seminary is Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Acceptance as a partner ministry is based upon the following criteria:

  1. Capacity to meet financial expectations
  2. Willingness to allow Resident to participate in all educational, training, and coaching components of the program.
  3. Alignment as a Christian community of faith with CYMT’s statement of faith.
  4. Ministry Partner’s location must allow for CYMT Resident to be able to travel to Austin, TX or Nashville, TN for MAYM Intensives 3-4 times each semester.

Notes: Partner Ministry acceptance is always conditional on finding a good match for your ministry in the placement process. CYMT recommends that churches or ministries begin the application process in the fall in preparation for a summer placement the following year.

What are our Partner Ministries saying about their CYMT youth minister?

“Sam started officially as our youth director in July 2019.  Our youth group is made up mostly of middle school boys and high school girls so it’s an interesting mix.  Sam has incorporated programming so that there’s something for everyone.  On Sunday afternoons we have gathering time and then split into middle school and high school so that the lessons and discussions are age-appropriate.  During the week he’s implemented a mid-week meetup at local restaurants.  It’s a great opportunity for him to check in with the kids in an informal setting.  Sometimes it’s 6th-12th grade and sometimes it’s divided by high school and middle school.  This is very popular and well attended.

Sam has been able to provide programming that appeals to all of our youth.  We have seen an increased level of engagement from our youth that has brought a new sense of enthusiasm.  As a church, we have been blessed to have Sam on our staff as our youth director.  We look forward to his continued leadership.”

Behind every CYMT resident, there is a team of supporters.

CYMT is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that equips youth ministers and communities of faith to develop innovative, effective, theologically-informed youth ministries. As a CYMT partner ministry, you partner with individual donors to allow students to graduate debt-free, with a masters degree, and with at least 3 years of professional experience. That means that when you become a partner ministry, not only are you meeting your staffing needs, you are helping youth ministries across the Church as a whole.
