Director of Youth Ministries
Responsible to: Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor, and the Staff/Parish Relations Committee

Job Summary: Partner with Broad Street UMC Staff and the Family Ministry Teams to conceptualize and creatively implement the Broad Street UMC Mission and Vision, especially as it relates to Youth and Family Ministry.

Director of Youth Ministries Responsibilities:

Definition of Family Ministry – Broad Street UMC recognizes that the parent/guardian to child relationship is the primary place where discipleship should happen. As a result, we emphasize a strong partnership between Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, and adult discipleship teams.

Programming

● Develop and implement middle school, high school, and college ministry programs that emphasize opportunities in the areas of prayer, presence, gifts, service, and witness designed to enhance the spiritual discipleship of all participants while providing them with appropriate activities to maintain their interest and participation.
● Partner with Family Ministry Teams, Children’s Ministry, and staff to conceptualize and implement seamless discipleship and spiritual formation for children, youth, and families.
● Equip parents with necessary tools to be equally involved in the discipleship of their children.
● Develop a “Team” approach to ministry by recruiting, equipping, and training an adequate number of responsible leaders for each area of responsibility.
● Coordinate with Children’s Ministry and Family Ministries for a consistent discipleship plan for Sunday School and manage the recruitment, support, and training of qualified teachers for each class.
● Partner with Children’s and Family Ministries to facilitate our Confirmation Ministry, working with teachers and other key leaders to vision and implement an innovative and comprehensive ministry for faith development and membership in the United Methodist church.
● Be a regular presence in Children’s Ministry to facilitate a consistent approach to discipleship.
● Empower and develop leadership among youth and college age students through training and offering them as much ownership and responsibility of the ministry as appropriate.
● Promote the incorporation of students into the life and ministry of the congregation including worship, leadership teams, and other congregational events and ministries.

Administration
● Write and maintain the Youth Ministry Budget and work cooperatively on a Family Ministry budget on a yearly basis, utilizing its resources appropriately to implement ministry to students and families.
● Maintain consistent and effective communication regarding the Youth Ministry mission and all programs, events, and activities.
● Work closely with Children’s and Family Ministries to promote and facilitate a safe atmosphere and healthy relationships as outlined in the Broad Street UMC Safe Sanctuary Policy. Retreats, Events, and Conferences
● Oversee all off-site events and programs within Broad Street Youth Ministry, including overnight events, retreats, and extended trips.
● Work closely with Children’s Ministries, Family Ministries, Unity Center, and Johnston Woods to plan and implement summer camps.
● Work closely with Children’s Ministries, Family Ministries, and Unity Center to plan, support, and implement VBS connecting students to ministry opportunities.

Missions and Outreach
● Facilitate a ministry of missions empowering students to use their time and talents to serve the physical and spiritual needs of our neighbor, both locally and globally.
● Make available creative programs that will foster growth and outreach among participants from within the church and attract individuals from the unchurched community at large.
● Partner with Unity Center and community service agencies to provide students and families opportunities for service throughout the year.
● Coordinate with the Parish Ministry team to develop a viable outreach and discipleship program for college students that utilizes and develops their gifts and talents for ministry.

Salary Range:

$45,000 - $55,000
