Job Description:

The director of children’s ministry is responsible for leading a team of associate directors and assistants in developing and leading a dynamic
and safe ministry to children, in alignment with The Woodlands Methodist Church’s mission to reach people for Jesus Christ, disciple them in
faith, and help those in need.

Essential Functions: Provide prayerful, visionary leadership for the overall function of children’s ministry, 3 years through 6th grade. This

  • Relational Leadership
    • Provide supervisory leadership and oversight of the children’s ministry team, ensuring each member’s consistent execution of
    vision, values, and programming to ensure the creation of a vibrant ministry environment that allows children to learn and
    experience the gospel of Jesus on a weekly basis.
    • Create a healthy team ecosystem through leadership of weekly team meetings, a yearly team retreat, and supporting individual
    ministry leaders in planning, goal-setting, and performance reviews.
    • Create a culture where volunteers love to serve through accurately assessing needs and leading the development and
    implementation of ongoing and effective volunteer recruiting, orientation, placement, onboarding, and training.
    Strategic Leadership
    • Ensure creation and execution of the children’s ministry vision, values, and goals, aligned with, and in support of, the overarching
    vision of the church. Champion these to supervisors, staff, volunteers, and families.
    • Perform ongoing assessment of programs, procedures, and systems to determine effectiveness and alignment. Plan and execute
    needed changes revealed by the assessments.
    • Ensure curriculum is age-appropriate and teacher-friendly, edited to suit the needs of the children and volunteers, delivered in a
    timely and agreed upon schedule, and consistent with the Woodland’s theology.
    • Maintain a consistent presence during services, supporting leaders as needed, interacting with parents, and observing for needs
    and improvement.
    • Establish and execute a consistent communication plan with parents, utilizing social media, digital and print forms. Work with the
    Communications Director to ensure the church is informed of the Woodland’s family ministry events
  • Operational Leadership
    • Prepare and oversee the ministry budget. Maintain a standard of careful stewardship, accurate budgeting, and consistent use of
    finance approval and reporting systems.
    • Ensure safety and evacuation protocols are established, communicated, and executed with all staff and volunteer teams. Ensure
    clear communication of these protocols through website, signage, print, and digital communication.
    • Work with ministry leaders to ensure clean, inviting, organized, age-appropriate, and safe age-level areas. Develop systems to
    maintain and inventory all resources, and ensure ongoing and preventative maintenance.
    • Assess and prioritize facility needs and capital improvement projects, communicating needs and casting vision to supervisor and
    executive leadership. Provide oversight of approved projects.
    • In partnership with the pastor of marriage and family ministries, create and execute an aligned faith formation plan, birth through
    graduation, ensuring children’s ministries programming supports the plan and reinforces partnering with parents.
    • In partnership with the pastor of marriage and family ministries, establish and execute milestone events, family nights, family
    services, and holiday take-home materials (Advent, Lent.) Create systems to resource families, including weekly take-home
    materials and a physical space to provide parent resources.
    • Collaborate with, and supervise the Special Blessings staff ministry team, supporting families of kids with special needs.
    • Implement advance calendaring for cross-departmental cohesion and adequate notification for communications, facilities, families
    and church leadership.
    • Utilize agreed upon church systems, including digital programs and software, maintaining accurate records and innovating
    • Be an active member of the Woodlands church ministry staff leadership team, representing the wins and challenges of the
    children’s ministry, as well as ensuring clear, cascading communication back to the children’s team of decisions made by the
    executive team.
  • Qualifications:
    ● A confessing Christian who holds to the Woodland’s statement of faith. Commitment to an ethical lifestyle appropriate for ministry
    per employee handbook.
    ● Minimum of five years demonstrated, effective supervisory ministry leadership experience in a large church setting.
    ● Well-rounded biblical background through formal education, or equivalent study and experience. Bachelor’s degree required.
    ● Able to maintain a high level of integrity, discernment, and discretion with sensitive information and people.
    ● Excellent teamwork and management abilities to lead ministry teams, multiple projects, and supervision of employees, volunteers,
    and contractors.
    ● Ability to innovate, initiate, organize, complete, and follow up on applicable project work. Able to creatively problem-solve if issues
    ● Self-motivated to study and improve knowledge and skill in areas of responsibility as needed. Teachable.
    ● Strong interpersonal skills, with sensitivity to faith and beliefs, in contact with employees, volunteers, parents, and congregants.
    ● Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through oral and written formats, with a demonstrated ability to make effective group

    ● Schedule: As is typical for ministry, this position requires a flexible schedule. It Includes agreed upon onsite office hours, Sunday
    services, occasional Saturday services, evening activities and meetings, and camps requiring travel
