Job Title: Director of Youth Ministries

The Director of Youth Ministries shall be a full-time salaried staff position. The director shall be an adult, at least 23 years old, who is committed to the teachings and historic mission of the United Methodist Church.
The individual shall possess the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the membership, staff and volunteers of the church, and have a positive influence upon the staff and congregation. The director shall be creative and willing to expand the youth program and activities of the church to include outreach into the local community.
The director is supervised by the Senior Minister and does all youth programming, planning and church activities in consultation with the Youth Ministry team. According to the Discipline of the United Methodist Church all church staff, ultimately report directly or indirectly to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.
Develop and organize church activities and conduct programs for youth, 6th graders through high school, which foster spiritual development and Christian learning based on the beliefs of the United Methodist Church. The director shall be an advocate of youth concerns in the total church program.
Regularly attend worship services including special services.
Develop and direct Youth Sunday
Work with Director of Children’s Ministries on Promotion Sunday and Special Recognitions.
Assist with Communion as Requested by the Pastor
Develop and attend weekly programs, including activities on Sunday mornings and evenings and Wednesday evenings, for all youth of the church.
Recruit teachers and volunteers for youth programming and events
Coordinate Youth Mission trip(s), fellowship events, etc.
Coordinate with volunteers and/or staff to develop a youth music/worship team
Assist with pre-teens during the week of Vacation Bible School
Oversee the formation of small groups among the youth
Promote and coordinate participation at Lakeshore United Methodist Camp.
Attend staff meetings and church council.
Schedule and maintain regular office hours.
Prepare articles for church bulletins and church newsletter/newspaper.
Advertise youth programs and activities to the community.
Update and maintain information related to youth for the church’s website.
Oversee youth ministry’s online and social media presence.
Order literature and supplies for youth programming and church activities.
Prepare and submit yearly budget requests for youth programs and church activities.
Schedule on the church calendar of events (and use of church vehicles) related to the job.
Ensure proper training and implementation of the Church’s Safe Sanctuaries policy for volunteers.
Make contacts with youth at school and/or community activities
Visit/contact new families with youth to help the family become assimilated into the life of the church
Visit youth of church families due to illness or crisis situations
Attend all church functions relating to youth and designated church activities
Perform other duties assigned as necessary to the overall needs of the church
Other: It is expected that the Director of Youth Ministries follow all Personnel Policies and conduct himself/herself in a professional and Christian manner.
