DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY AND COMMUNICATIONS

Position Summary:
This is a full-time, non-ordained position responsible for directing a welcoming youth ministry for grades 6-12 and overseeing church communications at Providence Presbyterian Church. The Director of Youth Ministry and Communications will focus primarily on engaging, guiding, and nurturing the spiritual growth of our youth through various programs and activities. The communications role will involve managing and producing content to inform and connect our congregation and present the church to the wider community.

Responsibilities:

Youth Ministry:

  • Youth Programming: Plan and direct engaging programs for middle and high school youth that is all inclusive. Organize off-site events, including retreats, mission trips, community outreach and conferences. Lead annual events such as the parent orientation meeting, Youth Sunday, and fundraisers for mission trips. Oversee the Confirmation Program (7/8th grade) and maintain ongoing contact with youth post-graduation. Become involved with other relevant church committees (ie the new member committee) incorporating the entire family into the church, pre school program as a continuation into youth programs, etc.
  • Relationships with Youth: Build strong relationships with active and inactive youth and their families, fostering a sense of community. Provide support and guidance, creating safe spaces for youth to explore their faith and the challenges they face and remain open to communication with youth. Attend youth events such as school performances and sports games.
  • Summer Conferences and Mission Trips: Plan, organize, and attend summer trips for our youth group.  Currently that includes the senior high youth conference at Montreat, the middle school conference at Massanetta Springs, and a mission/service trip(s).
  • Administration: Attend staff meetings and coordinate with other staff to benefit all. Work with the pastors for special worship services and coordinate youth activities with the general church calendar. Manage the youth ministry budget and participate in ongoing personal and professional development. Participate in the work of the Christian Education Committee.
  • Communications (Secondary Role): Update church website, social media, email and web eblasts as needed and manage social media platforms to promote general church activities. Assist with publication of documents to publicize church activities and programs, such as the Christian Education handbook.  Serve as staff liaison to the Communications/Technology Committee.

Qualifications/Qualities:

  • Youth Ministry: A keen understanding of youth, with a sense of calling to Youth Ministry. Working knowledge of scripture and Reformed Christian theology. Accepting and welcoming of all youth, energetic, organized, and a self-starter. Experience with youth in spiritual, educational, or recreational settings, and proficiency in relevant technology and social media. A team member that works well with other staff members and youth advisors.  Candidates must provide relevant personal and professional references along with a description of the reasons behind the candidates job application.
  • Communications: Strong written and oral communication skills, with proficiency in social media. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Details of Employment:

  • Salary: Full-time position with a starting salary of $50,000 per year.
  • Benefits: Includes medical, retirement contributions, continuing education allowance, auto allowance, and paid vacation and holidays.

  • Reporting: Responsible to the Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee.
