Job Description:

 

Position Title: Director of Children and Family Ministries

Hours per week: 20, with possibility of more

Purpose of the Position: Provide vision, leadership, and direction for the children and families at Saint John’s UMC. In partnership with staff and church leadership, guide the faith development of children (birth to 5th grade).

Objectives:   

Develop and manage the Children’s Ministry goals in accordance with Saint John’s Strategic Plan

Oversee the ministry and weekly programming for children ages birth – 5th grade.

Create environments, activities, and programming for each age group that will facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth. This includes Sunday school, Children’s Time and young members in worship, mission and service opportunities, as well as pre-teen fellowship.

Plan and coordinate family events – seasonal and special – including Summer Bible Camp and Church Camp.

Communicate with families through weekly emails, phone calls, and visitations. Communicate relevant events to the broader church community.

Recruit, train, schedule Children’s Ministry Volunteers, including Sunday school and seasonal/special events.

Supervise Childcare Coordinator.

Help maintain Saint John’s Safety Policy in accordance with children and families through Safe Gatherings.

Create and implement opportunities throughout the year to enhance relationship between Saint John’s and Grace Garden Preschool.

Lead weekly Children’s Chapel for Grace Garden Preschool.

 

General

Track expenditures and maintain budgets

Attend weekly staff meeting to discuss ministry strategy and effectiveness

 

Minimum requirements:

CPR First Aid

Safe Gatherings Trained

Bachelors degree in education or equivalent

Experience leading children’s groups
