Student Application Process

(for a Student who already has a job and whose church is applying to be a Training Church)

The following is step-by-step instructions for the application process for the CYMT program. Please be sure you have read the CYMT graduate resident expectations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age is 22 years old
  • BA or BS undergraduate degree with a 2.5 on 4.0 scale cumulative average
  • Note: Applicants who have not completed an undergraduate degree will be considered with demonstrated life experience. These residents will not be able to receive graduate level credits or complete the M.A. degree, though they can still earn a certificate

Personal Qualifications:

God calls many different types of people to lead the church. The Center for Youth Ministry Training exists to equip those who have heard a distinct call to work with youth. The following demonstrates a readiness for our program:

  • Commitment to Christ, the church, and the ministry of God's word
  • A clear call to youth ministry as a vocation
  • Personal and relational health, integrity, consideration of others, and physical and emotional fitness
  • Potential to lead, inspire and relate positively with people

Application Materials

To complete the application process, applicants must submit the following:

  1. Login to Start Your Application Process and Apply Online
    *Note: You will be able to save your application and come back to it.
  2. In the application section, you will complete your application and steps 3 and 4.
  3. Submit Current photo. You are required to submit a photo for the application process at Memphis Theological Seminary and CYMT.
  4. 3 Letters of recommendation -- from a pastor or youth minister, someone who has observed you working with youth, and a professor. If you have been away from formal academic studies for seven years or more, you may select someone who can evaluate your academic potential, professional accomplishments, and speak to your ability to do graduate work. A recommendation request email generator is available in the admissions section that will link them to the online recommendation form or you may download a copy of the forms.
  5. One copy of all official transcripts from ALL the applicant’s previous colleges or universities mailed to Memphis Theological Seminary and to the CYMT.

  6. CYMT Background Check  and Motor Vehicle Record Check Authorization and Release Form -- Per CYMT policy, all admissions are issued pending our receipt and approval of the results of the applicant’s background check and motor vehicle record check, which will be conducted by the CYMT on behalf of the applicant.

  7. Proof of Auto and Health Insurance -- All applicants have to provide proof of health and auto. Simply copy your insurance cards and mail in. It is a requirement that you maintain both policies the entire time you are an Intern with CYMT. If you need help securing affordable health insurance, CYMT can recommend the names of some companies.   8. Application Fee -- The non-refundable application fee is $50. You may submit your application fee online or mail it in. Your application will not be considered until your application fee has been received. Your application will not be processed until this is paid.

Application Deadlines

November 30 - Early Acceptance Deadine: Applicants wishing to be considered for early acceptance to the program must have completed the application process by November 30 including all references, forms, and fees. Applicant interviews will take place the second and third weeks in December. Applicants will be informed if they have been accepted, deferred to the Spring deadline, or not accepted by January 15.

March 1 - Admissions Deadline: Applications and supporting documents completed and on file by March 1 will receive preference. Applications received after March 1 will be considered if space permits.

Once all of your application materials are received, it will be reviewed at the next admissions committee meeting. The committee meets regularly and you will be contacted shortly after the group meets. An initial phone interview with each applicant will be scheduled to narrow down the list. The top applicants will be invited for a second interview for the available positions.

After You Are Accepted

After you are admitted, your church will be required to pay your tuition and you will recieve more information about orientation (attendance is required in order to be accepted ) and a "What to Expect Packet" to prepare you for CYMT.
